This assertion by the Son of God is universally valid...

If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead.
Luke 16:31

This assertion by the Son of God is universally valid. Whoever refuses to believe the Bible, whoever rejects the book of the revelation of God, will not be convinced of His existence even by the greatest miracles. Everything depends on whether we are prepared to take God at His word or not.

Here we have a scene from the life of the Lord Jesus (Mark 2, 3 - 12): He was about to heal a paralysed man effectively on the spot. First He said to the man: "Son, your sins are forgiven you." This remark and the claim Jesus made caused critical disapproval among the scribes present. It was not pronounced audibly, for at this point they did not publicly oppose this acknowledged Teacher.

But they could not keep their thoughts to themselves. Jesus knew precisely what they were thinking. And He faced those scribes and Pharisees with the fact. That was an extraordinary thing in itself! But then He healed the man, which must have been even more incomprehensible for those clever people; thereby He validated His claim to be God's Son. For disciples of Jesus it is clear that He is Christ, the Messiah promised in the Bible, the eternal Son of God.

What about His critics? There remained only one thing for them: this dangerous person must be killed! They refused to trust Jesus and His teaching. So the miracle failed to convince them. Believing or not believing. That is what matters.

"If you would believe, you would see the glory of God" (John 11, 40).

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
