Jesus, however, never kept silent about...

Remember Lot's wife. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luke 17:32; 12:34

"God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved" (John 3, 17). This outlines the mission that Jesus Christ fulfilled. It also expresses God's intention that he is "not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance!" (2 Peter 3, 9).

Jesus, however, never kept silent about the gravity of the coming judgment that would meet all who reject God's offer. A sincere proclamation of the gospel cannot ignore this fact, because God's offer is so great.

When the Lord once spoke on this subject with His disciples, He reminded them of Lot's wife. What happened to that woman? At the time of the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah through God's punitive judgment (cf. Genesis 19), Lot his family had been warned to leave Sodom. But they hesitated. So God's messengers took Lot, his wife and two daughters by the hand and led them out of the city. They were ordered to escape without looking round. But behind her husband's back Lot's wife turned round to look and died on the spot.

What was so wrong with that woman's conduct? Her heart was so attached to Sodom. Physically she had left the place - under pressure, not willingly. Her interests were still there. She had been so close to being saved, but she perished. Our "treasure" is not so much our possessions as what occupies our heart. Where do we stand on this matter?

Today's reading: Psalms 92 & 93

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
