All that was on her heart

The queen of Sheba spoke with him about all that was in her heart. So Solomon answered all her questions.
1 Kings 10:1 - 3

All that was on her heart
King Solomon, David's son, enjoyed riches and glory, but had extraordinary wisdom as well. His renown had reached the ears of a queen far away. The latter, sceptical, wished to prove it for herself and undertook a long journey to visit Solomon. She asked him all the questions she had on her heart, and none proved too difficult for Solomon to answer. The queen returned wondering at the wisdom and glory that even surpassed all that had been reported to her.

When Jesus was on earth, He alluded to that queen who came to consult Solomon, and, speaking of Himself, affirmed that "a greater than Solomon is here". In fact, Jesus was not merely an exceedingly wise Man like that king. He was "the wisdom of God" personified (1 Corinthians 1, 24). And none who encountered Him was deceived. The officers sent to arrest Him declared, "No man ever spoke like this man" (John 7, 46).

Nowadays we are all confronted with difficult questions. The question "why" often plagues our heart, sometimes in sadness. Our own wisdom finds no explanation.

Let us turn confidently to Jesus and bring our personal problems before Him. Nothing whatever will be beyond Him. We shall undoubtedly not understand everything, but we shall be pacified to know that He loves us, and that there is an explanation: He knows the why and the wherefore.

Today's reading: Psalm 106, vv. 28 - 54
