The angel’s message (6)

There is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:11

The angel's message (6)
This sentence contains in few words the nut of the gospel, the goods news: Saviour - Christ - Lord.

He is the Saviour. At the time many in Jerusalem awaited redemption. Prophets had announced the coming of the Saviour centuries before. Now He had been born - Jesus , whose name means: the Lord is salvation. He is the Christ, the long expected Messiah, who was to establish the kingdom and bring about peace. But He is also the Lord, having authority.

"You call me teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am" (John 13, 13).

These three titles already indicate His essential being and His purpose.

Saviour: Jesus was born to die, in contrast to us, who were born to live. His birth in the manger already points to the cross and His death. Without the objective of dying on the cross for the sins of mankind, God would never have become Man in Jesus Christ.

Christ: the Messiah. Jesus was refused and rejected. Yet He will return to establish His kingdom of peace, "and all dominions shall serve and obey him" (Daniel 7, 27).

Lord: The work of redemption at Calvary helps to underline His claim to lordship. Jesus Christ did not remain in the grave; He rose from the dead. God raised Him, "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow , and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2, 10.11).

Is He for you the Saviour, Christ and the Lord?

(concluded)

Today's reading: Deuteronomy ch. 4, vv. 1 - 24

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
