Few people are truly satisfied with their fate...

The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it? I , the LORD, search the heart. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.
Jeremiah 17:9.10; Ezekiel 36:26

Few people are truly satisfied with their fate. They complain about everything: other people, the weather, bad luck, and God, whom they make responsible for all their problems. And everyone wishes for a change that will bring back the joy of living.

It is true that something must change in my life. But it is necessary for me to determine honestly the real cause of my deception and worries. Now the Word of God informs me. What hinders me from being happy is not primarily the circumstances of my life, but my own state. It is not other people, but basically myself. It is not my habits, but my heart.

Scripture declares that the heart is fundamentally wicked. And it is responsible for my perpetual discontent. That is where the change is necessary. Can I achieve it by myself? On this point the Bible leaves me under no illusion. Changing one's heart is an impossible task. A broken watch cannot repair itself: the intervention of a watch-maker is needed.

For us our Creator must intervene. He who gave us our life wishes to give us new life and a new heart, too, through Jesus Christ, if we recognize that we are sinners and believe that Jesus died for our sins.

Today's reading: Deuteronomy ch. 5, v. 6 - ch.7, v. 2

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
