Death often comes totally...

The wages of sin is death.
Romans 6:23.

Death often comes totally unexpectedly: through an accident, illness or a catastrophe. The actual moment when it comes is not your decision. Your times are in God's hand. He has that control over you, whether you like it or not and whether you believe it or not. There is, however, another decision for which you alone are responsible: being saved or lost, going to heaven or hell, following Jesus Christ or Satan. Which do you choose?

God asks you this question, and you have to decide. No-one else can answer for you. And there are no abstentions, no sitting on the fence, either one or the other.

God's verdict on my case is already settled: "Guilty!" It is true and just: there is no case for the defence. No lawyer could possibly win for me.

Just imagine that the judge would announce the sentence for your life's guilt, and then add: "but he is justified and can go free." Our verse above continues: "the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord," for God has carried out the sentence for guilty sinners. Jesus Christ bore the punishment for all who believe on Him at the cross of Calvary. "He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5).

Accept God's gracious gift and believe on Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your guilt. But the decision is yours!

"All have sinned," and are "justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:23.24).

Today's reading: Exodus 20:1-7 · Luke 8:26-39

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

REWARD FOR LABOUR

Jacob sojourned with Laban and laboured for him for several years. At first, his host was cheating him at every opportunity, and the years of his hard labour were almost in vain. Down the line, God had to intervene to enable Jacob eat the fruit of his labour. For a reader of this devotional, in every area that you...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Bible in one year:
