Just a tiny seed

As he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.
1 Peter 1:15

Just a tiny seed
When the first colonists arrived in Australia, they found no thistles growing there. So nostalgia led a patriotic Scotsman to have some seed sent from his homeland. The thistle is the emblem of the Scottish nation. The man planted it in his garden. The plant took root, germinated, grew and blossomed. Wind and time did the rest: nowadays thistles can be found over the entire continent of Australia, much to the annoyance of countless farmers.

A small seed was sown - with disastrous consequences. That can also happen in our lives. One sin that we regard as harmless and leave unjudged will multiply. Just think of all the nasty thoughts we have or bitterness, evil lust, greed, envy, hatred, unbelief, pride etc.. Such feelings must not be allowed to take root, for they endanger our relationship with God.

He knows the root of every evil. So He searches our hearts and reveals their condition. He wants to cleanse us from minor sins, before they cause greater harm in our lives.

By means of the Word of God, which the Lord Jesus compares with seed, He shows us what does not correspond to His holiness. And God wishes to deal not only with the symptoms, but with the root. If we sincerely acknowledge the authority of the Bible and live accordingly, our life will be a joy to our God.

Today's reading: Exodus 20:8-21:6 · Luke 8:40-48

The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they would be given an understanding in "the mystery of the kingdom of God." He also spoke of another class of people to whom everything would be spoken in parables; these He described as, "them who are without." How solemn that God should...More

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
