Everyone wants justice. The world around us...

Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
Romans 4:3

Everyone wants justice. The world around us suffers and groans through injustice. But one naturally expects justice from other people. If another person or another nation acts unrighteously, they are publicly criticised. People keep silent regarding their own unjust dealings.

If anyone asks where all the unrighteousness comes from, the answers generally miss the the point. It is the Bible that gives the real cause of it all: man thinks he can get along without God, or even in opposition to Him; therefore hatred, violence, lies and injustice become widespread in our society.

The Bible shows that the world is heading for judgment for rejecting the one Saviour whom God sent. But, God be thanked, the individual has the possibility to avoid this road to perdition. Whoever comes to Jesus Christ need no longer suppress his own sin and injustice. He can own up and confess it. The consequence will be tremendous: whoever confesses his guilt before God, obtains forgiveness. Indeed, God pronounces him righteous, as if he had never committed any unrighteousness.

God can act graciously towards sinners because his own Son suffered and died at the cross of Calvary. Salvation does not come through complaining about the injustice of others, but by confessing one's own guilt before God. Then life can be led in righteousness and love. And such a change will not go unnoticed by others.

Today's reading: Exodus 21:7-37 · Luke 8:49-56
