The death trail

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.
Proverbs 16:25; John 14:6

The death trail
Many years ago, when the upper peninsula of Michigan was practically uninhabited, two men set off to walk to a new mining camp. One winter morning they started what they hoped would be the final stage of their journey. During the night snowfall had almost wiped out the tracks made by previous travellers, yet they set out confidently. The further they went, the denser became the forest they were passing through, so that they could not orientate themselves by the sun. Nevertheless they continued, even if somewhat worried. Imagine their relief when they came across some freshly made tracks in the snow. Two people had preceded them shortly before. Reassured, they quickened their steps and after an hour felt sure that they were near their destination.

But daylight was fading, and the camp was not in sight. A shadow moved out in front of them; instinctively they put their hands on their weapons. The shadow, or rather the Indian, then said in simple English: "White men lost on the death trail." In this way they realised their mistake: the tracks they had followed were their own; they had gone round in a circle!

How many act like them, hoping to get to heaven relying on their own judgment! If this is your own case, avoid this mortal trap and follow the sole way to get there: Jesus Christ!

Today's reading: Exodus 25:1-22 · Luke 9:37-50

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
