A clear conscience

I myself always strive to have a conscience without offence toward God and men.
Acts 24:16

A clear conscience
What a good example and lesson we can find in this statement by the apostle Paul in his testimony before the governor Felix!

We live in a dishonest, unjust world. This becomes all too evident in our daily life, particularly in the world of business, where, by means of lies and deceit, deals are made to obtain the greatest profit. How should we behave as Christians in such circumstances?

To answer this question, let us first remind ourselves of what of what the ultimate aim of our life is. We are not on earth to earn piles of money, but to glorify God in everyday life. We must keep this in mind at our place of work, so as not to be affected by the world's greed for profit.

Today's verse from the Bible is an additional aid: let us do all we can to have a "conscience without offence" before God and our fellowmen. Let us be honest and fair at work, even if our boss and other colleagues act otherwise.

It may well be that we have to accept certain disadvantages as a result. But what is that compared with the joy that we experience by living in harmony with Him? Isn't a clear conscience worth more than riches and success in the world?

We can be sure of this: if honouring God is our priority, He will take care of us. He will "supply all our need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

Today's reading: Exodus 25:23-40 · Luke 9:51-62

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
(Luke 24:26-27)

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
