Peace with God is not only a blissful...

Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:1

Peace with God is not only a blissful feeling. If that were so, it would not be worth much. It is infinitely more. It is a wonderful gift from God and is independent of our wavering, insecure feelings.

Every sincere person who desires salvation and trusts Jesus Christ and His redemptive work obtains peace with God. His sins and the eternal punishment that might have been expected no longer stand between him and God as an insoluble problem. God has Himself solved the problem in a unique way.

Whoever has experienced it can say, "All that separated me from God has been put aside completely and for ever. I now belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom it is written: "He has made peace through the blood of his cross" and "He is our peace" (Colossians 1:20; Ephesians 2:14). Therefore I have peace with God.

God Himself guarantees it through His Word. We read it in the verse at the head of this leaf. Jesus Christ, God's own Son, made atonement for sins through His death. Therefore God can now show His righteousness by forgiving our sins. Christ's work of atonement is an accomplished fact.

In addition: Christ was raised from the dead for our justification and elevated to God's right hand. God testified in this way that Christ's work of redemption fulfilled His holy demands (cf. Romans 4:25). So all was done by God Himself through Christ. Therefore peace with God is based on Him and His Word.

Everyone who turns to God and Jesus Christ and His work of atonement receives this peace.

Today's reading: Exodus 26:31-27:8 · Luke 10:30-42
