God loves you!

I have loved you, says the LORD. Yet you say, In what way have you loved us?
Malachi 1:2

God loves you!
"I have loved you!" This amazing message that God gave to the people of Israel is still relevant for us. The cross of Jesus Christ is the great witness of that love. Everywhere - in town and country and especially in cemeteries, we are reminded of His love. The cross has left its mark on western civilisation. Yet today the cross of the Son of God finds just as little response as God's appeal to the people of Israel in those days. The nation defiantly questioned God's message: "In what way have you loved us?"

Whoever knows God in some measure will not ask such a counter-question. The proof that "God so loves the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16) was made some two thousand years ago. The measure of God's love is evident in that He gave the most precious thing He had for us: His only beloved Son, who suffered a shameful death on the cross.

When natural catastrophes occur or people are shaken by other shocks, the question is regularly asked: where is the God of love? How could He permit such a misfortune? We should be absolutely clear that almighty God does not have to account for His actions. In face of such occurrences and suffering it is better to look to the cross, for through every misfortune that the human race suffers, God wishes to touch everyone's conscience. All should turn to Him to be saved and fully enjoy His love. Jesus' death on the cross is the greatest proof that God hates and condemns sin, but also that He loves mankind.

Today's reading: Exodus 34:11-26 · Luke 15:11-19

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
