In April 1987 twenty-four parachutists met in...

When we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:6.8

In April 1987 twenty-four parachutists met in Arizona, intending to make a series of jumps. Four of them had just jumped from a height of over 8,500 feet to demonstrate formation jumping, when 31-year-old Debbie Williams crashed against the back pack of a comrade and whirled unconscious downwards towards the ground with her unopened parachute.

Gregory Robertson, the group's trainer, was hovering 40 feet above the others. With his experience of 1,700 jumps he recognised the danger in a flash and set about reaching Debbie in time.

He had only a few seconds. Keeping his arms close to him and his legs together he dived headlong and, at a speed of 180 m.p.h. reached Debbie 3,000 feet above the ground. He turned her round and opened her parachute at under 2,000 feet. Then he opened his own. They glided down to earth. Debbie landed on her back, still unconscious. She was injured, but Gregory had saved her life.

Debbie's helplessness is an apt illustration of man's inability to redeem himself. When it is a matter of our estranged relationship with God and eternal salvation, we are "without strength" and heading for doom. But in our dire need God revealed His love in giving His own Son into death to save us. All who wish to can avail themselves of that great sacrifice!

Today's reading: Jeremiah 15:1-21 · Luke 22:66-71

ATTRIBUTES OF GOAL GETTERS

The children of Israel were intimidated for forty days by Goliath. David came to the scene and made enquiries about what would be done to whosoever defeated the giant. The reply he got fascinated him and straightaway, he set for himself the goal of defeating the giant. To David, nothing could stop him from being...More

Know When To Say Nothing

The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue.' Isaiah 50:4 NIV

Isaiah writes: The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.'

Let's face it;...More
