The biblical report on the age when Noah lived...

The earth also was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence.
Genesis 6:11

The biblical report on the age when Noah lived is just as topical as it was thousands of years ago. The media are full of reports of corruption, deceit and depravity. In addition there is the problem of violence, ranging from minor domestic incidents to nationwide warfare. Millions of poor people suffer from it daily. God still looks on. But His verdict on it has already been reached.

Then God caused the flood to destroy the earth. All mankind apart from Noah and his family died in that worldwide flood. Today people refuse to be warned by it. Many dispute whether that great flood actually happened. What the Bible says about it is too embarrassing and disquieting. If God punished the human race then for their sins and violence, then one must reckon with a repeat in the future. And that is precisely the warning that the Bible gives. Jesus Christ Himself spoke of it, and the apostle Peter mentions it (Matthew 24:37-44; 2 Peter 3:3-7).

Nobody should imagine that God wishes to frighten people. The opposite is the case: God points out the real danger, but also shows the way of escape. Then it was the ark that saved Noah's family from judgment. Today it is faith in the Lord Jesus, who saves us and grants us eternal life.

That sounds so simple. So why do so many reject salvation? One reason is man's pride. Before I yield to a Saviour, I must admit that I am lost. Only when I acknowledge God's verdict on me, will I be prepared to believe and be converted.

Today's reading: Jeremiah 22:1-12 · Luke 24:28-43

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
