Storm on the lake – a warning!

When they had left the multitude, they took him along in the boat as he was. And other little boats were also with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
Mark 4:36.37

Storm on the lake - a warning!
Jesus' disciples were sailing the ship. Some of them were fishermen; so it was a normal procedure for them. They had Jesus with them, after He had preached to the multitude on the shore from the boat.

Suddenly a storm arose. The waves beat into the vessel, filling it with water. The faces of the experienced fishermen reflected their fear and horror. Each one knew the gravity of the situation and felt his own need: it was a struggle for survival. Their own strength was insufficient: the forces of nature were more powerful. But the Lord Jesus was in the boat! He lay in the stern asleep. In their despair the disciples woke Him up and told Him about their trouble.

Our life is like a voyage over the sea. Sometimes it is calm and easy-going, sometimes things go faster, and occasionally there are warnings of storms ahead: fear, failure, illness, unemployment, loneliness. And every crossing eventually comes to an end.

Am I going along with or without Jesus? If I am with Him, He is the helmsman and Lord of my life. With Him alongside I shall reach my destination, for He will guide me into the "desired haven" (Psalm 107:30).

Without Jesus my life has neither support nor perspective. Without Him I may seek help from others, but find no voice, no answer and no attention (cf. 1 Kings 18:29).

Isn't it better and safer to make the crossing with Him?

Today's reading: Jeremiah 31:27-40 · Romans 5:17-21

It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast...More
