“That is the Lord I want to follow!”

Jesus spoke saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
John 8:12

"That is the Lord I want to follow!"
"Is it possible to truly know God? And is the Creator really interested in me?" These questions occupied Habiba, for a long time. One day she remembered the copy of John's gospel that someone had given her and which she kept in a drawer.

When she started reading it, she felt the power of God's Word. The love and sympathy of the Lord Jesus for those He met amazed her. But when she reached chapter 8, she feared what Jesus would do to that woman accused of adultery. She had sinned - that was clear. But the people who brought the accusation were themselves hypocrites. Surely Jesus would have to punish her for her serious sin. Habiba thought He was no different from the religious preachers she herself had come across. Disappointed she shut the book.

During the night, however, Habiba got up and went on reading: "When they continued asking him, he raised himself up and said to them, He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first. Those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus saw no-one but the woman, he said to her, Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no-one condemned you? She said, No-one, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more" (John 8:7-11).

Deeply moved, Habiba exclaimed, "That is the Lord I want to follow!"

Today's reading: Jeremiah 38:14-28 · Romans 8:31-39

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
