Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (140)

The creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labours with birth pangs together until now.
Romans 8:20-22

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (140)
Creation is waiting for "the revealing of the sons of God" (v.19). Outwardly there is, as yet, no distinction between believers and other people; they have to struggle with precisely the same problems and suffering. But one day they will return to earth with Christ in glory, when He establishes His kingdom of peace. This event will influence the whole of creation. Originally every thing in creation was "very good", and man was to rule the earth as God's representative (cf. Genesis 1:26-31). Through Adam's fall, however, it, too, became subject to futility or transience.

In contrast to those who reject the gospel of Jesus Christ a positive future lies ahead for creation. Adam's fall affected the entire creation detrimentally (Genesis 3:17.18). But redemption will bring about a positive effect: creation will be freed from the curse of sin. It will happen when the bodies of believers are redeemed and return to earth with Christ.

Peter mentioned this event just after Pentecost: "Jesus Christ whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things" (Acts 3:21). Creation awaits this moment; and just as a woman cannot accelerate the process of birth, so, too, creation has been "groaning" until the present day.

THE SACRIFICES IN THE BOOK OF NUMBERS (8)

Whoever touches the body of anyone who has died, and does not purify himself That person shall be cut off from Israel. He shall be unclean, because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him.

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
