People have always built places...

In the shadow of your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by. I will cry out to God most high, to God who performs all things for me.
Psalm 57:1.2

People have always built places of refuge. Many ancient castles and modern shelters testify to the fact. The Christian's refuge, however, is no cold edifice with thick walls; it is God Himself. If we have fled under His wings, we are close by Him, secure in His presence and protected through His power.

Every one of us knows problems: one suffers visibly through difficult circumstances of life or financial worries. Others suffer from physical or mental troubles. Yet whatever may oppress us, we can confidently take refuge in God.

The psalmist here was King David, who had been pursued by his predecessor and suffered exceedingly over a lengthy period. David wished to be at this place of refuge, "until these calamities have passed by". We, too, have no "limited residents' permit" with God, but can remain in His protection until our troublesome times have passed, even for the rest of our life.

During our difficulties we can call upon Him. We can explain our situation to God in prayer and trust that He will hear us, that He is with us to help us. And we have the assurance that He "performs all things" for us. When He takes the believers to Himself in glory, at the latest, all that has troubled us here will end.

Christians need never leave this place of refuge to seek a solution independently of God. Nor do we need to fear, but can rejoice in Him. "In the shadow of your wings I will rejoice" (Psalm 63:8). Nowhere are we as safe as under His wings.

Today's reading: Lamentations 3:52-4:6 · Psalm 45:1-10

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More
