Freedom

When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.
Romans 6:20.22

Freedom
The concept of freedom can be considered from various aspects. What do people understand by it? The general idea is: freedom means that someone can think, speak and act without any restriction from inner or external compulsion, provided he does not curb the freedom of others. Such definitions stress man's autonomy, including his assumed independence of God.

That is, however, only man's viewpoint. The Bible adds an important point from God's standpoint. It unmasks man's autonomy as an illusion. Everyone is a "slave" either of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness (v. 16). Man without God thinks he can do as he likes. In fact, he acts under the compulsion to sin.

Whoever has obtained the forgiveness of his sins through faith in Jesus Christ, the Redeemer, has been freed from sin. He has changed masters, so to speak. What a radical change! Through the death of Christ he has been pronounced free form sin. At the same time he has been united with Christ and is able to serve God. Instead of the former bitter fruit of sin that leads to death, he now brings forth "fruit to holiness" that arises from the eternal life that he now possesses (cf. ch. 6:.6-8).

"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord" (ch. 6:23).

Today's reading: Lamentations 5:1-22 · Psalm 46:1-12

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More
