A Christian’s riches

The same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon him. This grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.I know your tribulation and poverty (but you are rich).
Romans 10:12; Ephesians 3:8; Revelation 2:9

A Christian's riches
The Lord Jesus declared confidence for the future in one's riches to be illusive: "he who lays up treasure and is not rich toward God" (Luke 12:21). God's riches are not material, uncertain, perishable or fragile. They are of a spiritual moral order, linked with Jesus, the Son of God in heaven, and therefore secure.

These inexhaustible riches comprise Christ's virtues of love, holiness, righteousness, purity, peace, joy, strength, grace, compassion and pardon - eternal life in abundance. He grants them for our witness in living them out, free of charge, if we confess our wretchedness, pride, hardness, sins and rebellion against God. All this He took upon Himself by dying on the cross. Whoever believes this becomes a child of God and an heir of these riches, which are:

free of charge: God demands nothing and reminds us that we are "justified by his grace, through faith" (Romans 3:24.25).
immense: "the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:7).
inexhaustible: "a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys" (Luke 12:33).
eternal: "God has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace" (2 Thessalonians 2:16).

Today's reading: Leviticus 7:22-38 · Psalm 54:1-9
