Nothing can thwart God’s purpose for...

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:31.32

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (145)
Nothing can thwart God's purpose for His children: eventually they will be "conformed to the image of his Son" (v. 29). What can a Christian say to that? Verse 31 poses this question, and from then on follows a series of questions and answers in rapid succession. They show how happy and calm the apostle's heart was, since he knew God's love and power: "God is for us"!

Sinful man imagines that God is against him. Yet in the good news of Jesus Christ we learn that God loves mankind and wishes to save him. All who have put their faith in Christ and become children of God can know that "God is for us"!

The greatest proof of this fact is undoubtedly "His indescribable gift" (2 Corinthians 9:15), the gift of His own Son, whom He sacrificed for the godless and His enemies (cf. ch. 4:5; 5:10). Every gift is included in this, His greatest gift. God withholds nothing that is good for the Christian, and all is given him in Christ.

At this point the question arises for every Christian: do I wish for anything that God cannot grant me or that I cannot enjoy in fellowship with Christ? If that is the case, then I have not properly understood God's infinite love towards me and how happy His good gifts make me.

(to be continued next Sunday)

Today's reading: Leviticus 14:1-13 · Psalm 60:6-14

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
