Belief in God

He who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6

Belief in God
The Bible starts with the following statement: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). It is expressed as a plain fact to be taken for granted. The existence of God is presumed to be unquestionable. Nevertheless there are vast numbers of people who ignore it: "The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God'. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good" (Psalm 14:1).

We see here that the Bible equates disparaging thoughts about God, especially the denial of His existence, with corrupt morals, and it is justified. If there is no God, no Creator who determines rules of life, then we simply drift along without any moral orientation.

When the people of Israel forgot their Creator in the days of the judges, and hardly anyone remained faithful to God, chaos ruled: "Everyone did what was right in his own eyes" (Judges 21:25).

This is precisely what is happening today. The farther the so-called Christian countries get away from God and live as though He did not exist, the more evil will gain the upper hand.

But the opposite is also valid: belief in God's existence has an effect on our life. It places us under the obligation to acknowledge His authority and believe in His Son Jesus Christ, who once came to earth and died on the cross to redeem us from our sins, so that we can lead our life to God's satisfaction and joy.

Today's reading: Leviticus 14:14-32 · Psalm 61:1-9

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
