A long godless way

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Isaiah 55:7

A long godless way
It is possible to live without God - and yet lead a commendable upright life. But whatever we may maintain, it will truly never lead to genuine happiness. We generally pretend to be more indifferent than we really are.

It is possible to die without God, even through a painless death. Asaph, the writer of some psalms envied nonchalant, lawless people, because they often suffered no agony when dying. But when he considered the matter from God's point of view, he had to review his judgment: "Indeed, those who are far from you shall perish" (Psalm 73:27).

It is possible to be resurrected without belonging to Christ. But only whoever dies as a redeemed Christian will be raised to eternal life. Those who die without the forgiveness of their sins, will be resurrected later to appear before God's throne for judgment.

It will be possible to appear before God with one's sins, but then the holy, righteous Judge will pronounce a just sentence in condemning such people.

It is therefore possible to go along a godless way: living, dying, being raised again and appearing before God's judgment seat: a long way to eternal condemnation, far from God. It is worth considering it today, and choosing the other way possible: turning to God in time.

Today's reading: Leviticus 23:23-44 · Psalm 69:1-12

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
