We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28

God "searches the hearts" (v.27). He sees two groups of people on the earth. One consists of His enemies. Although He seeks to win them over, they are not yet reconciled to Him "through the death of his Son" (Romans 5:10).

The second group comprises people who are in themselves no better than the first group. They were also once enemies of God and guilty before Him. But through faith in Jesus Christ they have been justified and have peace with God. The "love of God has been poured out" in their hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Believers are therefore no longer enemies, but are able to love God truly and do so (cf. 1 John 4:19).

The children of God stand in a conscious relationship with God that is characterised by love. That gives them security, even when they are tried by suffering and do not know how to pray suitably (v. 26). However, they do know one thing: that through God's guidance "all things work together for good" for them.

That does not mean that Christians always know why they suffer certain things. But they have experienced God's love and trust Him. He will carry out His good intentions with them despite any adversity; He will even bring forth blessing out of trying situations.

God has a purpose for all whom He has called and who are now His children. He stands over all that happens on earth, guiding events in secret, even the difficult circumstances of life, which must serve His eternal purpose with His children and work together for good in their life of faith.
