The path to freedom

We have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, you will be made free? Jesus answered them, Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
John 8:33-36

The path to freedom
We have not all been in prison. But do you realise that by nature we are all morally prisoners. Indeed, we cannot escape sinning. That is what Jesus explained to the Jews who thought they did not need to be liberated (John 8). We think we are free, but we are really captives to sin.

This sad fact is fortunately not final. If the Bible teaches that we are enslaved by lusts and passions, it also presents the One who can liberate us: Jesus. God sent Him to "to proclaim liberty to the captives , to set at liberty those who are oppressed" (Luke 4:18). There are many throughout the world who can testify of such freedom. Slaves of drugs, alcohol, occult practices and immoral passions have found the path to freedom through reading the Bible.

First, however, we must realise that we need to be freed and then go to Jesus, the Son of God. He bore the judgment of sin on the cross. God can therefore offer full forgiveness to whoever believes that Jesus died for him. He grants new life of divine origin actuated by the Spirit of God. Freed from the condition of being a slave of sin, the believer can then exclaim: "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:2)

"Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 14:1-14 · Revelation 3:7-13

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

REWARD FOR LABOUR

Jacob sojourned with Laban and laboured for him for several years. At first, his host was cheating him at every opportunity, and the years of his hard labour were almost in vain. Down the line, God had to intervene to enable Jacob eat the fruit of his labour. For a reader of this devotional, in every area that you...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Bible in one year:
Job...More
