What happened to that lame beggar in Jerusalem was...

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. And he (Peter) took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked.
Acts 3:6-8

What happened to that lame beggar in Jerusalem was a true miracle. That was the verdict of every eye witness. But the apostles Peter and John did not perform it in their own strength. They explained that they had acted in the power of Jesus Christ, who was known to the Jews as the Nazarene.

The beggar rejoiced over his newly gained health. But the healing affected not only him; it was a testimony for all in Jerusalem. Not long before they had demanded and watched the crucifixion of Jesus. That Man Jesus had not remained in death, but had risen again. It was not only the apostles, but also many others who could testify of their encounter with the risen Lord.

This healing of the lame man was to confirm that Christ had truly been resurrected. Although He was no longer on earth, Peter and John had acted "in his name". That was the proof, Peter declared, that God had taken His servant Jesus to heaven and glorified Him. So this inexplicable fact was attested before the world (vv. 12-16).

This has serious consequences for all mankind. The Son of God was once crucified by men, but has now been appointed Judge of all the world. It is therefore an essential question whether we acknowledge and know the risen Christ as our own Saviour.

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 22:1-12 · Revelation 9:13-21

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
