The editor-in-chief of our daily newspaper once...

Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools is folly.
Proverbs 16:22

The editor-in-chief of our daily newspaper once wrote a full-page review of a book dealing with the theme of God and the Bible. Here was a man wanting to inform his readers about this subject. In political and social matters the editor has always expressed fair and well-balanced judgments. His knowledge of the Bible, however, proved faulty, not only in his judgment but also in its factual content. He expressed surprise that "the name of Moses' father is not mentioned". My Bible names Amram, Moses' father, and Jochebed, his mother, several times. The editor also claimed that the temple was built by the son of David's adulterous relationship with Bathsheba. My Bible tells me that that child died, probably soon after its birth. David married Bathsheba after her first husband's death; so Solomon, the son who built the temple, was in fact a legitimate child. These were just two of the numerous errors in the article.

Is it not typical of those who reject Holy Scripture to reveal ignorance of its contents? In everyday matters we expect criticism to be founded on fact. Where the Word of God is concerned infidels are satisfied with prejudice. Faith accepts the entire Canon of Holy Scripture. In His prayer to His Father shortly before His death on the cross the Lord Jesus Christ said, "Thy word is truth" (John 17:3). The Bible is unpopular because it discerns the thoughts and intents of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12). But unless we acknowledge its judgment on us, we cannot even approach God.

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 29:20-36 · Revelation 16:1-11

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
