The birth of the Son of God in Bethlehem was...

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to me the one to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from old, from everlasting.
Micah 5:2

The birth of the Son of God in Bethlehem was the starting point for the great, glorious blessings that God intended for mankind. For all our joy on that account we must not forget the particular joy that it brought to the heart of God Himself. Our verse states: "Out of you shall come forth to me". In the Redeemer who was to come God's counsel regarding Israel and the nations was to find its wondrous fulfilment: "the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth - in him" (Ephesians 1:9.10).

The Messiah came to carry out God's counsel, "what is in my heart and in my mind" (cf. John 6:38; 1 Samuel 2:35). And God gave Him the testimony of His joy and pleasure (Matthew 3:17; 17:5).

Today's verse from the Bible shows that the Messiah was to be more than a mere man: His " goings forth are from old, from everlasting". Although the Trinity of the Godhead was not yet revealed in the Old Testament, there are indications of it, as in this verse. But now we can contemplate the full revelation of God in His Son in worship, as we ponder over His glory (John 1:14.18).

"We beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father."

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 33:12-25 · Revelation 20:1-6

God in His grace has centered every blessing for us in Christ. Without Christ, we have nothing, nothing but our sins; with Christ we have all things, and therefore want nothing in addition to Christ. As...More

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

There is a nature that is of the Earth and there is a nature that is of Heaven. Since the fall of man, the earthly nature of man has become corrupted and therefore is greatly under the influence of the kingdom of Satan. Characteristic features of this nature are: wickedness, moral perversion - sodomy and all sorts of...More
