Christian faith

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

We did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Romans 10: 17; 2 Peter 1: 16.

Christian faith
You say: "I envy you having faith, for I cannot get myself to believe." Do you really know what faith is?

Do you perhaps consider it being naive or credulous, surrendering your reason, or a kind of leap into a void with your eyes closed? Or possibly a crutch for support when one has difficulty in walking? Or an umbrella that one opens for shelter against downpours or the unforeseen storms of life? Or even a tranquilliser (as someone once called religion "the opium of the people") that subdues the fear of death?

No! Faith is absolute trust in the God of the Bible, a God who wishes to speak to mankind through the Holy Scriptures and reveal Himself in Jesus Christ, a God who loves and has demonstrated His love in giving what was most precious to Him: His beloved Son, who sacrificed His life for whoever puts his trust in Him.

Faith is not adhering to a way of thinking, but affectionate dependence on God, who has given such clear proofs of his goodness, love and power.

Is it so difficult to have "faith that saves"? Admittedly, we must acknowledge that we are lost, which is distressing. However, when God speaks, shouldn't we be obliged to listen? Can one scorn or reject what He says?

Today‘s reading: Numbers 31: 25 - 54 · Matthew 16: 21 - 28

Having opened their treasures, they offered to Him gifts, gold, and frankincense

"Having opened their treasures, they offered to Him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
(Matthew 2:11)

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and when the tidings reached the guilty tyrant who sat upon the Jewish throne, he "was troubled and all Jerusalem with him." The men of the city had...More

THE BREVITY OF TIME

How recklessly this age speeds to self destruction! The word of God is accurate and authentic in its prediction of the latter end of the world and in warning His saints of the end times, so that they are not overtaken by the prevalence of evil in this age! In virtually every facet of life, there is an overturning...More
