Unable to sleep (1)

I will speak comfort to her.
Hosea 2: 14.

Unable to sleep (1)
A young woman who was browsing at our Bible stand told us joyfully how she had found her way to God four years previously.

It all started when she couldn't sleep. An inexplicable uneasiness took possession of her whenever she went to bed. She had nodded off several times in her car on her long journey to work.

The young lady refused to take sleeping tablets, but what could she do? One day on her way to work she passed a succession of posters. "Read the Bible!" the first one said, then again 100 yards further on "Read the Bible!" And the third poster was the same: "Read the Bible!"

One evening, when she again could not sleep, the thought came to her: "I'll read the Bible. It's probably boring, but perhaps I'll sleep from the monotony". Things turned out differently: her "soporific" proved to be extremely lively. On the following days she discovered more and more in the Bible that affected her deep down in her heart.

She still had problems with sleeping: her uneasiness increased. Then one day she read a moving story in a Christian calendar. When her mother visited her, she told her about it, and they had a long conversation about God and man, guilt and forgiveness, life and death. As it was late, the mother suggested staying the night at her daughter's place, but her daughter, sensing that she needed some peace, said, "Please go back home!" On the homeward journey her mother had a fatal accident.

(to be concluded tomorrow)

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 4: 29 - 49 · Matthew 21: 22 - 46

HAZARDING LIVES FOR MISSIONS

Within the space of a few years after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the gospel about Him had reached Rome, Alexandria, Antioch and all the great cities in Europe, Africa and Asia. The gospel had made great inroads into the aristocracy and among intellectuals, and had already changed the lives...More
