The parable of the ten virgins

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

Surely I am coming quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Matthew 25: 13; Romans 8: 9; Revelation 22: 20.

The parable of the ten virgins
Summary. It was a wedding day. The marriage was celebrated when the night was fresh. The bridegroom was to be escorted by a train of ten young ladies of honour. But he was late, and they fell asleep. At midnight a cry rang out: "Behold, the bridegroom is coming!" They started lighting their lamps, but five of them had no oil. While they were buying some, the bridegroom arrived and entered the hall with those who had oil, the "wise" ones. The others found the door shut.

Meaning. The bridegroom is Christ, who will return to take believers to be with Him in heaven. The ten virgins are an illustration of those who bear a Christian title. Their sleep is the forgetfulness in Christianity over the centuries of the reality of the Lord's return. The cry in the night is the fairly recent discovery in church history that the Lord will return. The lamps are the Christian testimony, and the oil is life from God given by the Holy Spirit.

Application. We must be ready for the Lord's coming, before it is too late! Living among Christians is not enough: we need life from God through repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus. When He comes for His own, there will be no more time to get ready. The door will be closed immediately. Today is the time for believing, tomorrow does not belong to us. Let us be like the wise virgins!

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 13: 1 - 19 · Matthew 26: 1 - 16

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-FOOLISH PROPHETS

The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say unto them that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow after their own spirit, and have seen nothing!...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DON'T!

A negative change is generally abhorred by men. Everyone craves progress. We always desire to keep ascending the ladder of success. No one wants to make a u-turn in the journey of greatness. The greatest journey whose end has the greatest significance is the journey to Heaven. This journey is only made in Jesus...More
