God offers redemption to everyone in the whole world through...

He (Jesus) answered and said, I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then she came and worshipped him, saying. Lord, help me! But he answered and said, It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs. And she said, Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
Matthew 15: 24 - 27.

God offers redemption to everyone in the whole world through the atoning death of the Lord Jesus Christ. During His life on earth, however, Jesus' tasks were largely restricted to the people of Israel.

The woman of Canaan in our text above was in a troublesome situation with her daughter; she had no right to Jesus' assistance. But she remained determined: she needed help that only the Son of God could give her.

If only we were as reasonable and persevering as she! Then there would be hope, but not in the sense that "If He is God, then He must help me. Why else is He there?" Whoever entertains such thoughts must realise that we cannot make demands of God for our own interests.

The Canaanite woman knew that she had no claim on Jesus' help for her daughter. It could not be obtained by legal action. However, there was the means of grace, as she hinted by saying: "Yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs."

It was not the dire trouble that made that woman ingenious, but her trust in the Son of God and His grace. Such trust is never disappointed - neither then nor now. Jesus answered the woman: "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire."

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 28: 15 - 32 · Galatians 4: 21 - 31

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
