Suffering and glory (1)

He is despised and rejected of men; and we did not esteem him.

I am a reproach of men and despised by the people. All those who see me ridicule me.

Isaiah 53: 3; Psalm 22: 6.7.

Suffering and glory (1)
Having spoken to people through the prophets, God then sent them His beloved Son as His message to them here on earth. How was Jesus received?

Born in a poor family, Jesus had a manger for His cradle. Soon afterwards King Herod sought to kill Him. When He had grown up, He was rejected from the start of His public ministry. .

He did nothing but good, curing the sick, casting out demons and raising the dead. But His miracles and sayings only brought forth increasing hatred on the part of the religious leaders. They set traps for Him and accused Him of arrogance, blasphemy, madness and demon possession.

Finally, through false witnesses they persuaded the crowds to demand His death loudly. He was condemned to die by crucifixion.

Brutal soldiers mocked Him without restraint. They spat in His face, struck Him, whipped Him and crowned Him with thorns. Then He was taken to Calvary, stripped of His clothing and nailed to a cross between two criminals. Every social class was represented at this spectacle; they were unanimous in their hatred and contempt for the Son of God.

After His death a soldier pierced His side with a spear. He was laid in a tomb.

But Jesus rose again and ascended into heaven.

(to be concluded tomorrow)

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 34: 1 - 12 · Ephesians 3: 8 - 13

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
(Luke 24:26-27)

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
