“What is truth?” This question asked by the Roman governor Pilate at...

They will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
2 Timothy 4: 4.

"What is truth?" This question asked by the Roman governor Pilate at the trial of Jesus Christ has fatal repercussions for the whole of mankind. It is not just a matter of the correctness of any factual content, but of truth in a higher sense. The question is topical today as ever before. In the final instance it concerns eternity and a knowledge of God.

On that occasion the Lord Jesus testified clearly: "For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, has matured to become the rich fruit of His work of redemption, and it is still the age of grace.

One thing cannot be overlooked: today's verse from the Bible is proving to be increasingly true. Because God's truth spotlights mankind, appealing to his conscience, many turn away from it and choose ways of darkness. Superstition and occult practices of every kind are on the increase at a shocking rate. And modern man claims to be "enlightened"! "You be watchful in all things" was the apostle Paul's advice in view of this trend.

Today‘s reading: 1 Samuel 7: 2 - 17 · Psalms 90: 1 - 9
