The survivor from a wrecked ship had been stranded on...

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8: 28.

The survivor from a wrecked ship had been stranded on an uninhabited island. After some time he had built a provisional hut in which he kept the few belongings he had managed to rescue in the catastrophe. He asked God to free him from his precarious situation and watched the horizon daily so as not to miss any ship that might happen to pass.

When he returned from searching for food one day; he was horrified to find his hut in flames. The worst thing imaginable had happened. All that he had saved from the shipwreck had gone up in smoke and flames. However, what at first sight appeared to be a tragedy and could only mean disaster for him proved to be the means of his rescue.

God in His wisdom turned the apparent loss into the answer to his urgent prayers. That same day a ship actually appeared. "We saw your smoke signal!" the captain explained.

We could experience something similar. When a long cherished wish has not been fulfilled, when a great difficulty suddenly comes about, or when we suffer in some way, it can turn out to be means by which God provides His answer to our trouble. For someone who does not yet know God, it can prove to be the motivation to seek Him and come to Him through Jesus Christ. For believers it is an occasion when they experience their Lord's presence, consolation and power to help in time of need.

Today‘s reading: 1 Samuel 15: 17 - 35 · Psalms 102: 1 - 11

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
