Thoughts on the Gospel of John (46)

The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, Come, see a man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ? Then they went out of the city and came to him.
John 4: 28 - 30.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (46)
Jesus' gracious words opened up the Samaritan woman's heart. When she finally discovered that He was the Christ, the effect was instantaneous. She left her waterpot there and went into the town.

All that comprised her daily toil and effort, symbolised by the waterpot, she put behind her. She had found what was more important. Even the well with its tradition and her religious forefathers, lost their significance. That Person standing in front of her, who had so impressed her, was incomparably greater than the patriarch Jacob. What a change that brought about in that woman's life!

. This she took to heart and asked the people of the town to come. She wished to lead them to Christ. She had become a missionary.

How many have gone out since then, constantly inviting people to come to Christ. They had all experienced what prompted the Samaritan woman. Their sinful life had been shown up, and after they had confessed their sins and been converted, Jesus' forgiving grace had covered all.

The woman was not afraid to point out her own sinful past to others. That proved the genuineness of her faith. Her few words reached hearts and had their effect: many came to Jesus. If only this could be repeated over and over again!

(to be continued next Sunday)

Today‘s reading: 1 Samuel 28: 1 - 14 · Colossians 1: 1 - 11

What shall the baptized for the dead do if ...

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

Getting Them From Childhood To Adulthood (2)

Be clear minded and self-controlled' 1 Peter 4:7 NIV
Going from childhood to adulthood is a transition that requires a lot of wisdom and love. Your teen will feel and behave child-like sometimes, and adult-like other times. Your job is to realize that whatever their status, they will become a man (woman)...More
