André had emigrated from Poland to South America before the...

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3: 20.

André had emigrated from Poland to South America before the Second World War. There he settled as a farmer. His wife was a believer, and he went to church with her every Sunday, but he did not share her faith. He was so near to Christ, yet did not belong to Him. He was a sceptic.

Then the war broke out, he was called up for service and sailed to Scotland. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean the fleet was attacked, and ships hit by torpedoes sank ahead of them and behind them within a few minutes. In this perilous situation everyone on the ship started to pray, including André. He suddenly became aware that it was no good being merely a sceptic. He promised God that he would be converted, if He would preserve him from drowning.

God heard his prayer, and his ship reached the coast of Scotland. There he remembered his promise. On the next Sunday he sought a church. He was surprised to be handed a New Testament in Polish immediately at the entrance. A little later he was able to converse with a Polish Christian and tell him his story. The latter finally asked him, "André, are you going to stay a sceptic or just a seeker? Won't you open the door of your heart to let Jesus Christ enter?" Now André was ready. He repented of his sins and received the Lord Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
