Hands that save

When he (Peter) saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, Lord, save me! And immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him.
Matthew 14: 30.31.

Hands that save
At the beginning of the New Testament, in the four gospels, we read what Jesus Christ said and did. Sometimes His hands are mentioned

In this case the disciples have launched their boat one evening at their Master's command. In the early morning they are still on the lake. A strong wind has risen and they have to struggle against the waves. They had been toiling all night, but in vain. Suddenly they are terrified: they have seen someone approaching them, walking on the water. The disciples scream for fear, but it turns out to be their Lord and Master .

The Lord Jesus had been praying on the mountain and was now coming to the disciples' aid.

Peter said boldly, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." Jesus answered: "Come!" and Peter climbed out of the boat, but then noticed the strong wind, became afraid and started sinking. So he cried out, "Lord, save me!" And "Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him."

Did the strong wind or the waves cause Peter to sink down? Neither one nor the other. No-one can walk on water, be it calm or rough. Peter sank because he took his eyes off Jesus! Faith alone, that rests fully on Christ, can overcome difficulties at His command. It conquers whatever threatens us.

Peter was sinking, but Jesus was there to grasp his hand. Even today His hands save followers who have succumbed, and also every sinner who acknowledges his guilt and appeals to Him in his need.

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
