Thoughts on the Gospel of John (48)

Do you not say, There are still four months, and then comes the harvest? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this the saying is true: one sows and another reaps. I sent you to reap that for which you have not laboured; others have laboured, and you have entered into their labours.
John 4: 35 - 38.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (48)
The Samaritan woman was still in the city inviting people to come to know Christ. Meanwhile the Lord was instructing His disciples about the harvest, first the natural, then a spiritual harvest. The natural harvest would start in four months' time; seen spiritually, the fields were ready for reaping. Jesus was thinking not only of this one Samaritan who believed in him, but of many more, who from Samaria and elsewhere would believe and one day be with Him in eternity.

In parabolic form the Lord meant missionary work, whose purpose is leading people to Christ. God ensures that every "labourer" receives his reward. And the fruit gathered will never go bad or be lost. All on earth who become children of God remain so eternally with God in heaven.

It often happens that men and women of God sow the seed persistently for long periods without seeing any fruit. Others, who start this work later, experience the conversion of many. Are the former at a disadvantage? In no way! There is no injustice or envy in heaven.

Every servant rejoices over the fruit harvested, i.e. over all whom they will meet in heaven.

THE SACRIFICES IN THE BOOK OF NUMBERS (8)

Whoever touches the body of anyone who has died, and does not purify himself That person shall be cut off from Israel. He shall be unclean, because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him.

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
