Hands that bless

They brought little children to him (Jesus), that he might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was greatly displeased. And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.
Mark 10: 13.14.16.

Hands that bless
As a book the Bible is exceedingly frank. It often mentions weaknesses and faults of its main characters. This is one of the many characteristics that convince us that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Today's verse clearly describes wrong behaviour by Jesus' disciples. Parents brought their children to Jesus, but the disciples sent them away, and Jesus rightly reproved them for doing so. Why didn't the disciples want the parents to bring their children to the Lord Jesus? Maybe they thought, "Children are not important!" or: "One shouldn't waste time and effort on children!" They possibly considered it all right for children to be seen, but not to be heard. The disciples travelled around with Jesus and certainly had a lot to do, attending to Him and His audience. Perhaps they believed they were doing the Lord a favour by keeping the children away from Him.

The Lord Jesus thought otherwise, however! He was displeased and commanded: .

To His mind children showed just what should characterise those who belong to the kingdom of God: dependence, humility, and unreserved trust.

Then Jesus took the children in His arms, laid His hands on them and blessed them. In this way the Lord rewarded the faith of parents who brought their children to Him.

Today‘s reading: 2 Samuel 10: 1 - 19 · 1 Samuel 4: 9 - 12

ACCEPTED TIME 2

God is never too early and He is never too late. His timetable is set on purpose; the purpose is not only for your sake but also for His. In all things, His name shall be glorified. No doubt, He would have been glorified healing Lazarus of his sickness, but this can't compare to raising him from the dead after four...More

IMPEDIMENTS TO PRAYER

God in Heaven is glorified when our light shines in the midst of the darkness of this world. If you...More

Standing in the limelight

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern for all who are going to believe on him for everlasting life.
1 Timothy 1:15.16.
