Thoughts on the Gospel of John (50)

Now after the two days he (Jesus) departed from there and went to Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honour in his own country. So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things he did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they also had gone to the feast. So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water wine.
John 4: 43 - 46.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (50)
Jesus was on the way from Judea to Galilee. He had consciously, and in obedience to his heavenly Father, chosen the way through Samaria: . What happened there in those two days was a great joy, both for Him and for the Samaritans who found in Him the Saviour of the world.

Could Jesus not have remained longer in Samaria? He was aware that a prophet has no honour in his own country. So what could he expect in Galilee? Only rejection - but that did not hinder Him from continuing to work there, for it was the will of God. Jesus never sought His own honour.

How was Jesus received in Galilee? He was welcome: there was no rejection or hatred. On the surface everything seemed in order. But if we consider the motives behind that friendliness, things look different. The Galileans had seen miracles in Jerusalem and were therefore impressed by Jesus. The Samaritans, by contrast, had heard His words and therefore believed in Him. As a performer of miracles Jesus was welcome everywhere. As a prophet He was rejected even by the Galileans.

Let us follow the Samaritans' example by trusting Jesus and His word! Whoever knows Him and rests on Him can pursue his life with confidence.

(to be continued next Sunday)

Today‘s reading: 2 Samuel 17: 15 - 29 · Titus 1: 1 - 9

IS YOUR VISA READY?

Speaking of aspirations and ambitions in life, if all you can achieve on earth is for your name to enter and remain in the most important book in the universe - the Book of Life, it is worth it. On the Day of Judgment, many whose names were in earth's halls of fame will be shown the way to the eternal lake of fire...More

BE STRONG

You don't charge someone to be strong if there is no task to be performed or if pressure is not required, either for motion or putting up resistance against an opposing force. In the physical realm, mere movement requires strength. This explains why a sick person or a person just recovering from an ailment finds it...More

Acts 5:4-5

God often proves to be other than people think. Here, for example, death struck a man suddenly for lying before God. Is God therefore severe, when he makes use of His power unreservedly towards the weak?
Let us first briefly examine what preceded this judgment. Holy zeal for the...More
