Thoughts on the Gospel of John (52)

Jesus said to him, Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe. The nobleman said to him Sir, come down, before my child dies! Jesus said to him, Go your way; your son lives! So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.
John 4: 48 - 50.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (52)
When the nobleman appealed to Jesus for his son who was mortally ill, he undoubtedly expected a positive response from Him. Instead, he heard a reproach.

Would the Lord turn him away? By no means! He merely put the supplicant to the test: had he faith, or not? The nobleman persisted. Without going into Jesus' reply, he repeats his request earnestly and respectfully: "Sir, come down!"

To get from Cana (325 feet above sea level) to Capernaum (215 feet below sea level) is truly a "descent". But it reminds us how God has "come down" to mankind. In ancient times, when the people of Israel were in bondage in Egypt, God came down to free them .

(to be continued next Sunday)

Today‘s reading: 2 Samuel 24: 14 - 25 · John 3: 1 - 8

Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
