The bankruptcy that saves

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him - for the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease for ever.

You were not redeemed with silver or gold from your aimless conduct but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Psalm 49: 7.8; 1 Peter 1: 18.19.

The bankruptcy that saves
This was the title of a news item that told of the course of someone who after years of imprisonment can at last breathe again. His mind is relieved: he is free of his debts. He benefits from a recent law dealing with excess debts for people in great financial danger through a surfeit of credits, unemployment or other difficulties. Finished are the pestering of the legal system, anguish and depression. It is like a fresh start to life with the hope of not falling back again.

Towards our righteous, holy God, however, every human being has a debt from which he cannot free himself. The sons of Korah realised this, as they affirm in Psalm 49. Inherited from birth it gets no lighter in the course of time, is not even cancelled at death and leads to eternal judgment. But what neither luck, nor the best of moral qualities, nor good works can achieve, Jesus Christ effected in paying the immense price of redemption on our behalf. He alone effectively wipes out all that we owe before God.

If we feel the weight of our burden, realising our moral bankruptcy and inability to get things right ourselves, let us put our confidence in Jesus Christ. In this way we can benefit from God's forgiveness.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 8: 41 - 53 · John 7: 14 - 24

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Bible in one year:
