The assurance of forgiveness (2)

Jesus said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven you.
Mark 2: 5.

The assurance of forgiveness (2)
The deaconess thought, "It is remarkable that I have never before paid attention to these verses from the Bible about the forgiveness of sins! I have confessed my sins to God and hoped that He has forgiven me and would save me, but I thought it pride to say hat I was already redeemed."

Then some examples from the Bible occurred to her. She thought of what Jesus said to the paralytic and also to the sinner woman: "Your sins are forgiven you. Your faith has saved you. Go in peace" .

"These people all had the certainty of forgiveness," the deaconess told herself and wondered that she had understood so little about forgiveness until then. Her heart was filled with the joyful assurance that her sins had truly been forgiven.

Pleased about this discovery, she felt strengthened in her faith. She returned to the bed of the dying man to tell him the examples from the gospels and the clear statements in the Bible.

As she spoke the man's expression brightened. It was the answer to his prayers and his anxious question. He accepted God's promises by faith and surrendered fully to the One who had died for him.

Two persons had seen the light, the wounded man for eternal rest, and the deaconess, who, in the midst of her active life, could tell others of God's forgiveness and blessing.

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
