A treasure undiscovered

I rejoice at your word as one who finds great treasure.
Psalm 119: 162.

A treasure undiscovered
During a chance visit paid to a modest family one of my acquaintances was intrigued by something unusual hanging in a frame on the living-room wall. He went up to it to examine it more closely and discovered that it was a foreign banknote of high value framed and behind glass. The head of the house explained that in 1944 his parents had hidden a wounded parachutist officer who, when he left them, gave them that banknote. They had kept it carefully as a souvenir. When the family learned through my friend that that large banknote, when exchanged at the bank, would have enabled them to pay several months rent. They had there at their disposal a small treasure, well-kept but unused.

Just suppose you, who are reading the account on this leaf, were to have a treasure of which you are unaware! A Bible, possibly, inherited from your grandparents, or a New Testament given as a leaving present from school, for example. If you haven't read it, what a loss you have had!

The Bible, being indeed the Word of God, is an undiscovered treasure for all who do not know it. It addresses our greatest needs. It alone can reveal the true secret of life and happiness. And by this means alone can we be brought to know the One who is able and willing to change our life truly and thoroughly from top to bottom.

Thy Word is like a deep, deep mine,
And jewels rich and rare
Are hidden in its mighty depths
For every searcher there.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 21: 16 - 29 · John 14: 12 - 21

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
