He was dead, but He is alive

I am he who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore.
Revelation 1: 18.

He was dead, but He is alive
Young Melanie was spending the holiday with her aunt, who as a Christian told her niece several stories about the life of Jesus on earth and His death on the cross. The young girl listened attentively. Now it was time to go to bed. The next morning they sat down at the table for breakfast. The aunt said, "Melanie, we are going to thank the Lord Jesus before we start eating." But Melanie protested, "No, Auntie, you said yesterday that He had died!"

In her surprise Melanie's aunt realised that she had indeed left out the important part of the story. So she continued, "Yes, Melanie, I did say that Jesus died on the cross on the Friday, but He rose again on the Sunday morning. His disciples saw Him; He spoke to them, and showed them His hands and His feet, where they saw the print of the nails. He let them touch Him. He wanted them to be sure that it wasn't a ghost, but He Himself in a body with flesh and bones (cf. Luke 24: 36 - 39). He was dead, but now no longer. He is in heaven sitting on a throne."

The reality of the resurrection is a significant fact, without which the Christian faith would be valueless. As the apostle Paul said, "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable" (1 Corinthians 15: 19.20).

Christians do not have a dead Saviour, but One who is alive and has ascended to heaven!

Today‘s reading: Ezekiel 18: 19 - 32 · Psalms 119: 161 - 176
