Light is an essential characteristic of God. God is...

If we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:7.

Light is an essential characteristic of God. God is light in Himself (v. 5). In Old Testament times that light was largely concealed. The ark of the covenant was the sign of God's presence among His people. But both in the sanctuary in the wilderness and later in the temple in Jerusalem it stood in darkness. Sin had separated mankind from God, and our Lord's work of redemption was not yet accomplished. Even the Old Testament believers could only partially recognise God in those days.

That changed when the Lord Jesus came to earth. He came as the light of the world. He revealed God in His essential being. Through His death He laid the foundation for us to recognise who God is. God is now in the light, having been fully revealed. When the Lord Jesus died, the veil of the temple was rent from top to bottom. Light penetrated the dark realm of God's abode, and now we can freely appear before Him and lead our life in the light.

This is one aspect of the position of every child of God. We walk in the light; the full revelation of God in the Lord Jesus is ours to enjoy. The practical consequence of this is our fellowship one with another. Together we form God's family and rejoice in the fact.

Our fellowship is based on the fact that the blood of Jesus Christ has cleansed us from our sins. Our guilt has been removed: from darkness we have come into the light, and the more we are occupied with the Lord Jesus and His work on the cross, the more we shall treasure the light in which we stand.

Today‘s reading: Ezekiel 29: 1 - 21 · Psalms 131: 1 - 3

God in His grace has centered every blessing for us in Christ. Without Christ, we have nothing, nothing but our sins; with Christ we have all things, and therefore want nothing in addition to Christ. As...More

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

There is a nature that is of the Earth and there is a nature that is of Heaven. Since the fall of man, the earthly nature of man has become corrupted and therefore is greatly under the influence of the kingdom of Satan. Characteristic features of this nature are: wickedness, moral perversion - sodomy and all sorts of...More
