An unparalleled birth

You will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.
Luke 2: 12 - 14.

An unparalleled birth
Why did angels appear on earth at this apparently so common event as the birth of a child? Was it the first son of a great king born in the luxury of a palace? No, the child who had just been brought into the world by Mary, a humble young woman, was thought to be the son of a modest carpenter. His bed was a manger.

Why then this apparition of angels? Why this magnificent expression of praise?

Because it concerned the most extraordinary occurrence since the creation of the world: God came down to man, His creature, in the Person of His Son, who took upon Himself a body similar to ours.

The glory of God was no longer evident in the creation of the universe, but also in His plan of grace towards mankind. The message of peace applies to each one: be reconciled to God. God wished to dwell among men and share His thoughts with us.

It would be necessary for that small Child, once a Man, to become a faultless victim for our sins, sacrificing Himself on the cross. But that would not have been possible without this initial act of divine love: Jesus, "God manifested in the flesh" being born in poverty in Bethlehem.

Today‘s reading: Ezekiel 43: 13 - 27 · Psalms 145: 1 - 9

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
