”Jesus, have mercy on me!” (6)

Then Jesus said to him, Go your way; your faith has made you well. And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
Mark 10:52.; (concluded)

"Jesus, have mercy on me!" (6)
Bartimæus had come across to the Lord Jesus in faith. Once he had expressed his need, the Lord was ready to assure him that his wish had been granted. "Go your way; your faith has made you well." Bartimæus was healed: he could now see.

The healing of this blind man is an illustration of how Jesus Christ is still prepared to heal people of spiritual blindness, i.e. blindness regarding God and oneself, too, even today. He wishes to save our soul. Salvation is not something we must labour for: it is a gift from God. It happens "immediately" and totally, like the healing of the blind man; but it is a matter of faith.

Jesus heard Bartimæus' call, recognised his faith and healed him. Bartimæus did not go "his" way subsequently, however. He "followed Jesus on the road". And what a road that was! Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem, where He would be crucified. Bartimæus' decision to go with Him was proof of his gratitude for his cure. It should also be the natural reaction of born again believers to follow Jesus on the pathway of rejection by the world, from which He has separated them through His work of redemption accomplished at Calvary.

Dear reader, in our first meditation in this series on blind Bartimæus, we pointed out that there were various groups who reacted differently to the blind man's need and to the Person of Jesus Christ. Have these readings affected you and your attitude to the Son of God and your own condition before Him?

Today's reading: Nehemiah 11:1-36 · Proverbs 16:1-11

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
