"God, if you exist " (1)
This was Sarah's report: "I was brought up as a Buddhist, but was never convinced of that religion. My mother and I once took part in a Buddhist festival. The people there gave an impression of contentment as they repeated their mantras, whereas I was dreadfully bored. When the time came for blossoms to be strewn before the Buddha, I asked my mother, "Why should I do this, if I don't believe?" She gave me a sign to remain silent. From that moment on I turned away from Buddhism.

When I reached the age of 16, all that I saw around me, and all within me was disobedience, evil thoughts, lies and dissipation. The longer I lived in this way, the more I suffered. One day, on returning home from school, I locked myself in my room. I looked up to heaven and cried, "Oh, God, if you exist, help me out of this hell! Please help me, you are my only refuge!"

Some time later I came to know a Christian boy who invited me to a group of young people who read the ­Bible together. I went and heard a hymn that affected me profoundly. It said that God knows what troubles me. He knows what pains and unsettles me. He knows my worries and my fear of the next day. But with God all will be well.

I had to weep. It was as if God had spoken to the depths of my heart, telling me to come to Him.
